I found this video some time ago of Alexander McQueen's performance piece "Deconstruction: The Bridegroom Stripped Bare". It is incredibly beautiful to watch; not only for the haunting beauty of the final outcome, but to see an artist at work in the moment. It reminds me a bit of the film 'Jackson Pollock 51'. I am a big fan of abstract expressionism and the similarities in 'action work' between McQueen and Pollock are almost uncanny. Here's a clip of Pollock at work:
And now McQueen:
This is how I would imagine McQueen draped on the stand. Quick, yet calculating knowing where each snip and fold should fall. His sheer unwavering confidence is so inspiring.

Londres à Paris à Londres
I was reading through an old post (particularly the one with the photo of Lisa Fonssagrives on the Eiffel Tower) and thinking about how I had said 'I hope I get to Paris someday'. It was only from six months ago. I had to laugh to myself because it really made me think about how you truly never know where life will take you at any given moment. I went to Paris for the first time last Tuesday and had a lovely time. In fact it was so lovely that I went again on Saturday! The weather was beautiful and the flowers were in bloom and I knew that this was the place I was supposed to be. I think a lot about where I will end up after college and sometimes you just know...ya'know? Maybe Paris, maybe not. Maybe London, maybe not. But I would certainly enjoy living in Europe for a prolonged period after school.
Step 1: Learn another language. Apparently the English language is over anyway. Who wants to be my tutor?

Aaaaand We're Back. Again.
Wow, what a hiatus. I didn't realize that I would be gone for so long. Last semester definitely kicked my butt, but I'm back with a vengeance: new country, new school, new life.
I moved to London nearly three months ago and studying at St. Martins for a term. It's all a bit late to report on this, I know, but I've been too busy eating chips and traveling Europe. The term (technically) ends at the end of the week. So sad. My flight home is scheduled for April 6th (but not if I can help it!) I have had the most amazing time and met the most amazing people. I will be quite sad to see it end.
Are you ready, Brooklyn? UK in BK in two weeks or less. xo
